Faculty Hiring: Non-Regular

Non Regular Hiring Process Map

What does non-regular hiring include?

Non-regular hiring includes the hiring of the following positions: teaching assistants, adjunct faculty (includes emeriti, term teaching faculty, and concurrent), postdocs, and visitors. All requests, regardless of funding source, must be submitted to the dean’s office for review and approval.

How to Make a Request

The process begins in February with a request to the Dean’s Office via FileMaker Pro (FMP) for the upcoming academic year. The request must include:

  • The position type requested
  • The name of the appointee (if known)
  • terminal degree (yes/no)
  • term of the appointment (fall/spring/academic year)
  • subject code
  • course title
  • credit hours
  • projected enrollment
  • The proposed rate of pay
  • type of need (regular or one-time)
  • The funding source (FOAP)

In March, the dean will review requests with the leadership team, and decisions will be relayed to requestors by March 31 via FMP.  The standard rates for each appointment are available in FileMaker Pro. Training on FMP is available here. Please email Michelle LaCourt for access and contact Megan Fitz with any questions.

Off-Cycle Requests

Requests made outside of February should be reserved for unusual situations, such as an unexpected faculty absence, and must be submitted via FileMaker Pro. This will generate an email to the divisional senior administrative coordinator, who will contact the appropriate divisional associate dean for review and Michelle LaCourt. The status of the request will be available in FMP (updated by Michelle LaCourt). A “hold” or blank status means the request is still under review. Once the decision is available in FMP, please contact the divisional dean with questions.

Requests made after the February deadline are less likely to be approved due to funding availability, with the exception of unexpected faculty absences.
