Important things to know about temporary employment

  • Temporary employees cannot work more than 900 hours in the first 12 months of temporary employment beginning with their hire date or then in any calendar year thereafter
  • Temporary positions are generally non-exempt
  • Non-exempt temporary positions must be paid on an hourly basis and overtime must be paid for any hours worked over 40 hours in a work week
  • Temporary positions do not have to post on the ND.jobs site if the person being hired has already been identified

Preferred Candidate

If you have a candidate in mind that you would like to hire for a temporary position, utilize the process below.

  1. Direct the person that you want to hire to submit their application using this link.
    • As part of the application, they will need to input the name of the department/position for which they are applying.
  2. Once the application has been submitted, Bridget will initiate the hiring process with HR.
  3. Temporary employees must complete a criminal background check prior to the start date.
  4. Once the background check clears, you can build the job for new temporary employees in Personnel Actions.

Job Postings

If you do not have a preferred candidate, you can conduct a search through jobs.nd.edu.
