Shakespeare at Notre Dame is thrilled to announce our Fall 2024 residency of Actors From The London Stage (AFTLS) for the week of October 28-November 2. During this week, the London-based ensemble will perform Twelfth Night in the Decio Theatre at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center and offer free in-class workshops across campus.

For years, Notre Dame faculty have engaged AFTLS in courses as varied as Accounting, English, Theology, Logic, Psychology, Business, Law, Theatre, and more. Our faculty have appreciated that…

  • “When actors come, they bring fresh ideas about performance, embodiment, and communication to class, regardless of the subject matter—i.e., it’s not just for Renaissance drama by any means!” (Sarah McKibben—Irish Language and Literature).
  • “Because communication skills (both oral and written) are important to accounting professionals, my students have found AFTLS workshops valuable. They have enjoyed working with actors on deconstructing and articulating long passages of archaic language.” (Ram Ramanan—Accounting)
  • “The AFLTS workshop provided my students with new critical frameworks for approaching texts, and established our classroom as a space where they could boldly endeavor without fear of embarrassment. After the workshop, my students emerged as a united ensemble of classmates.” (Jennifer Birkett—English / Theatre)

If you (or your department) would be interested in scheduling an in-class workshop with an AFTLS ensemble member for October 29th, 30th, 31st, November 1st, or 2nd, please contact Jennifer Birkett. Note that demand for these workshops at Notre Dame is always high. We fill slots on a first-come, first-serve basis. Due to rehearsal and performance schedules, we cannot accommodate workshops beginning before 8:30 am or concluding later than 4:15 pm.

We also hope that you (and your class!) will attend Twelfth Night at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center October 30th - November 1st at 7:30 pm. More information (and ticket sales) for the performances can be found by calling the DPAC box office at 632-2800, emailing Christopher Schenkel (DPAC ticket office manager) at cschenk2@nd.edu, or by clicking here.

Arts and Letters instructors can also apply for a Teaching Beyond the Classroom grant to cover the cost of group tickets. Click HERE for more info.
