- Publishing
- Number and quality of publications
- Measured by the number of quotations and the ranking of journals
- Grant funding
- Good graduate placements (especially tenure-track and postdoc positions)
- Major Fellowships (NEH, Guggenheim)
- Major Awards
- Elections to Honorific Societies
How do we elevate research?
- Faculty research leaves and teaching load reviews
- Support to gain external research funding & grants
- Research and professional development funding (R&PD)
- A&L provides PhD students with $2,000 (maximum) for each active graduate student in years 1-6 of the program
- A&L provides faculty with various R&PD funding opportunities
- These funds may be used for conferences, books, fieldwork & relevant research, software, professional memberships & training, travel, editing fees, journal submissions, etc.
- Faculty start-up funding packages
- Institute for Scholarship in the Liberal Arts (ISLA)
- Ensures faculty and students at all levels receive research support and scholarly recognition
