In advance of the beginning of the Fall Semester, I write to bring to your attention three newly published documents that have been shared with us by Professor Ronald Metoyer, Vice President and Associate Provost for Teaching and Learning:
-
Guidance on the Prohibition of Devices During Assessments – Prepared by the Exam Security Working Group in consultation with the colleges and schools, this document provides a set of best practices and sample syllabus language for faculty who want to prohibit students from using unauthorized devices when completing assessments.
-
Guidance on the Use of Artificial Intelligence for Assessment – These guidelines from the University Committee on Academic Technologies (UCAT) AI Subcommittee speak to how instructors who choose to use AI to help assess student work should approach doing so, underscoring that, first and foremost, the instructors themselves must remain the final decision-makers on grades.
-
An Editable Syllabus Template – In support of the collaboration between the associate deans and the Office of the Registrar to articulate best practices for syllabi, Notre Dame Learning’s Kaneb Center for Teaching Excellence has developed a syllabus template that is highly customizable to best serve individual needs.
Each resource contains contact information if any questions arise about the guidance contained therein. You are also welcome to reach out to Notre Dame Learning at any time.
I very much look forward to working with you in the upcoming academic year.
