The College of Arts and Letters invites applications from tenured college faculty interested in spending the Spring 2027 semester in Rome to work on a research project that would benefit from residence in the region. The program will provide a subsidy for housing in Rome, support for some research-related travel and expenses, and support for graduate student research assistance. The fellow is expected to teach a course at the Rome Global Campus, designed in consultation with ND Rome staff, participate in the recruitment of relevant students this fall, and host a symposium on the topic of the research project at the end of the semester. We are particularly interested in faculty who have research projects that overlap with substantive problems of interest to the Vatican today, such as poverty, climate change, secularization, and ecumenism.
Applications must include a one-page description of the proposed research project, as well as a brief acknowledgement of support from your chair. Full salary and benefits will be paid during the Rome semester, and full teaching credit will accrue.
Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Eastern on Monday, September 15, 2025. Please submit applications to Kate Marshall, Associate Dean for Research, College of Arts and Letters.
